Manuela Kalsky werd geboren in 1961 in Salzgitter-Bad in Duitsland. Zij volgde daar het Gymnasium en ging daarna theologie studeren in Marburg. Begin jaren tachtig kwam zij naar Nederland om theologie te studeren in Amsterdam.
